About

b@rtsmeding IT
Bart Smeding runs b@rtsmeding IT B.V. as a network and infrastructure automation practice: consultancy, training, and delivery of automation that survives in production — from brownfield onboarding to greenfield design, and from traditional networking to tested deploy and rollback pipelines.
We work at the intersection of NetDevOps and NetAIOps: solid automation first, then AI where it adds clear value (observability, CMDB-backed queries, assisted operations). A longer technical angle is in AI in networking.
Network automation solution architect
I have extensive experience as a network automation solution architect: translating business needs into design and implementation, then onboarding both brownfield and greenfield environments so automation lands safely in real operations.
That work often includes custom training built around a customer’s specific environment (tools, vendors, and constraints), plus global training programs that take network engineers toward NetDevOps practices—automation, CI/CD, source of truth, and sustainable ways of working.
I help teams own and extend what we build: clear handover, documentation, and practice so automation does not stop when the project ends.
Core competencies
- Ansible (roles, collections, AWX/Tower patterns)
- Network / infrastructure automation
- DevOps and CI/CD (including GitLab CI/CD)
- Python for orchestration and tooling
- Source of truth integrations (e.g. Nautobot with dynamic inventory and jobs)
- Cloud and hybrid automation patterns
Snapshot of experience
- Automation frameworks for complex network environments
- Python for orchestration and custom tooling
- Ansible for Cisco IOS, Arista, Nexus — inventory, configuration, compliance
- AWX for team workflows and project sync
- Nautobot jobs for onboarding, upgrades, and validation
- Linux automation (e.g. Nginx, DNS, common services)
Technical breadth: network design and operations, IPv4/IPv6, routing/switching, security, monitoring, virtualization (Hyper-V, VMware), scripting beyond Python where it fits.
